In April 2010, the City of Columbia held an informational meeting concerning traffic safety and capacity for improvements on Providence Road, between Turner Ave. and Stadium Blvd. The goals of this project are to: 1) Improve traffic flow on Providence; 2) Improve pedestrian crossing opportunities across Providence; 3) Improve access to adjacent neighborhoods; and 3) Reduce delay and traffic congestion.
At this time there are five design concepts in review. Each option has its pros and cons regarding signal locations as well as side roads accessing Providence.
Questions regarding this project can be addressed with Stuart King, City of Columbia Engineer at 573-874-7250.
