The Sewer Utility is charged with the responsibility to protect the public health and to ensure minimal impact upon the aquatic environment by adequate collection and treatment of wastewater within a regional area including Columbia. This is achieved by engineering review of proposed and existing facilities and through effective and economical operation and maintenance of collection and treatment systems. Objectives: To ensure new construction meets current Federal, State, and City requirements. To provide the lowest practical cost for maintaining sanitary sewer facilities and resources. To provide proper treatment of wastewater by complying with the standards imposed for effluent discharge to the environment. To provide a prudent, reasonable, and responsible approach to meeting the objectives through careful management of the material and human resources provided for that purpose. |
