To receive the free compost workshop schedule by mail or electronically, or to register for an upcoming workshop, email your request to:

Volunteer Opportunity:
Teach Composting!

Volunteers make it happen!  Public Works volunteers teach the basics of composting at the workshops and maintain the site.

It's easy to become a compost trainer! Composting experience is helpful, but not necessary.  Training is provided. You may volunteer up to four hours per month.

To join our team or obtain information, contact us!

All workshops are held at the Capen Park compost demonstration site (next to the Capen Park mulch site) at the end of Capen Park Drive off of Rock Quarry Road.

In case of rain, workshops will be moved to the Grissum Building, 1313 Lakeview Avenue -- one block west of the City Power Plant and one block north of the Business Loop.

Worm Composting Vermi Composting (Worms):  For volunteers who like kids, dirt, and worms! No experience necessary!  The Columbia Public Works Volunteer Program is looking for volunteers interested in introducing children and their teachers to worm composting.  Volunteers are needed to deliver and collect the bins.  The schedule would be flexible, mostly weekday mornings.  To become a Worm Loan Aide, contact us!
