Blue Bag (Commingled) Recycling

If you live in Columbia, you can recycle at the curb on your regular weekly trash day.  Here's how it works!

Trash Bag

In the Blue Bag (Container Materials Only) - Glass Bottles and Jars, Aluminum Cans, Metal Food Cans, #1 and #2 Plastic Containers

  • #1 and #2 plastic containers (Find # inside arrows on bottom of container)
  • Remember to securely tie bags when full.
  • Set out full bags only.
  • Step on plastic containers to save space.
  • Bag should weigh less than 50 pounds.
  • Please put trash in black trash bags, not in blue bags.

Residential customers  will receive a Voucher in April, August, and December each year to redeem for blue recycling bags. If more recycling bags are needed, Columbia residents may request another voucher for additional blue recycling bags at no cost.

Cardboard

In a Fiber Container - Corrugated Cardboard, Boxboard, Chipboard, Office Paper, Newspapers, Magazines, Catalogs, Phone Books

  • Fiber materials should not be in the blue bag.
  • Recycle fiber in cardboard box or grocery  sack.
  • Fiber can also be bound in bundles not greater than 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter.
  • Should weigh less than 50 pounds.
  • Please put trash in black bags.

Empty motor oil containers are not recyclable and should be placed in the black trash bag designated for the landfill. Used motor oil, anti-freeze, and batteries will not be picked up curbside. These items may be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1313 Lakeview Ave., 9am to 1pm on the first and third Saturdays, April through November.
