Compost Pick-up is available every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m and on some Saturdays (see online calendar for specific dates and times). For individuals wanting to purchase compost, it is sold in bulk quantity only. The fee is $12.00 plus tax per cubic yard. A minimum fee of $12.00 plus tax is required. Single orders of more than 100 cubic yards/month will be discounted and sold for $8.00 plus tax per cubic yard. Appointments may be scheduled for loads of 10 cubic yards or more anytime during the week. A loader will be on site to assist while supplies last.
If you have tree limbs, leaves or grass to dispose of, the compost facility accepts commercial and residential yard waste for processing and composting. Chipping fees are $16.25 per ton. Leaves and grass are accepted at no charge.
The city of Columbia's compost facility accepts clean loads of drywall. The drywall is charged the compost rate of $16.25 per ton and is sent to the compost site instead of the landfill. Untreated lumber and sawdust in combination with clean drywall is acceptable.
Nature's Way To Recycle!
Attend a free composting workshop and start composting. Get a free or reduced-price bin at the workshop and fill it with yard waste, food scraps, old T-shirts and paper towels. Put the finished compost around any tree, shrub or grass.
Fall and Spring compost workshops are held at the Capen Park Demonstration Site located off Rock Quarry Road. Columbia maintains yard waste drop-off sites at Capen Park Drive (located off Rock Quarry Road, South of Stadium) and Parkside Drive (located off Creasy Springs Road). They are open from dawn to dusk and are for personal residential yard waste only ( Code of Ordinances Section 22-158 (4) It shall be unlawful for any person to deliver, deposit, drop off or set out at any residential yard waste site any materials, substances, or thing other than yard waste from that person's personal residence).
Drop off only leaves, grass clippings, brush or limbs up to 10 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter. Please remove bags or containers and ties. Reuse or dispose of them with regular waste. Place litter in waste container. Call 573-474-9145 for information on how to dispose of tree trunks and root balls.
Mulch is available free to Columbia residents for your personal use and may be picked up when the two mulch sites are open. There is no staff available at the site to assist with loading.
