Compost it - Nature's Way To Recycle!
Attend a free composting workshop and start composting. Get a free or reduced-price bin at the workshop and fill it with yard waste and food scraps. Put the finished compost around any tree, shrub or grass.
Fall and Spring compost workshops are held at the Capen Park Demonstration Site located off Rock Quarry Road. For additional details about the compost workshops, call Columbia Public Works at 874-6271, or send your name, address, telephone number and E-mail address to
pw-volunteer@GoColumbiaMo.comand we'll send you the composting schedule and information you requested.
Simply place your yard waste into bags and set them curbside on your regular collection day. Remember that bags should weigh less than 70 pounds. The yard waste decomposes in the landfill rapidly and aids in the generation of methane gas which is then collected and used to run generators at the Columbia Energy Center. Your yard waste generates power for homes and businesses.
Take it to a mulch site - it's free!
Drop off leaves, grass clippings, brush or limbs up to 10 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter. Please remove bags or containers and ties. Call (573) 474-9145 for information on how to dispose of tree trunks and root balls.
