The City of Columbia began providing commuter service to citizens on Monday, September 20, 1965. An estimated ridership of 1,414,400 is anticipated for FY 2008.
System improvements implemented by Columbia Transit to better serve the changing community have resulted in increased ridership:
Passengers now enjoy a transit system that operates on schedule as well as taking them to more popular destinations.
Reliable transportation is a valuable asset for ADA-eligible citizens when they seek to work, attend school, shop or get health care. Since passage of the "Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990", the City of Columbia has provided curb-to-curb transportation service to citizens who are certified as unable to ride Columbia Transit's fixed-route bus system.
The City has eight lift-equipped para-transit mini-buses that, in FY 2008, are expected to carry approximately 27,000 riders. New scheduling software designed to improve customer service and provide increased operational efficiencies was installed in 2006.
