Columbia Transit to offer Wi-Fi pilot project

COLUMBIA, MO (December 30, 2009) - The city of Columbia announces that Columbia Transit will offer a trial period for Wi-Fi access on two city buses. Beginning in January, Wi-Fi will be available on buses number 1969 and number 1970, which are typically used on the 102 Blue and 103 Green routes. This trial period will last 90 days and results will be used to determine if this is a viable service that should be continued. Guidelines for use will be posted on the buses which have this Wi-Fi service.

City Council reviewed and approved a plan in August 2009 to offer a trial period on two buses to see if this service is needed before investing in placing Wi-Fi on all city buses. At this time, there are no plans to initiate wireless service until City Council has the opportunity to review the results and budget for future. Total cost for the three-month trial period is $180 plus $335 for initial setup and equipment.
