COLUMBIA, MO (September 9, 2010) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department announces the removal of the traffic signal at Rock Quarry Rd and Nifong Blvd, the intersection one-half mile south of Route AC/Grindstone Pkwy.
Due to changing traffic patterns, such as State Route AC moving from the Nifong Alignment to the Grindstone Parkway Alignment, the intersection of Rock Quarry Rd and Nifong Blvd no longer warrants a traffic signal. To better serve traffic, the signal will be replaced with an all-way stop. City crews are installing new stop signs this week and the lights will be flashing red in all directions as the stop signs are installed. The red lights will flash for about one week as motorists get used to the new stop control. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution as the signal poles are removed.
