COLUMBIA, MO (June 20, 2010) - Between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., Columbia Water and Light’s 16-inch water main serving the northeast part of Columbia broke. Due to the pressure in the water main dropping, the utility has issued a precautionary boil advisory.
The areas in Columbia where customers need to boil water before consuming are: Lake of the Woods, Mexico Gravel Rd, Pine Grove Mobile Home Park, Godas, The Links, Hanover, Timber Ridge, Garden City, Indian Hills and the surrounding subdivisions.
Customers are urged to take the following precautions:
• Boil water for three minutes prior to using it for cooking or drinking.
• Do not use ice from an automatic ice maker. Remake ice with water that has been boiled.
• Disinfect dishes and food contact surfaces by immersing for one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
Water service has been restored by insulating the broken section of main. The boil advisory will continue until two clean water samples can be verified. The boil advisory will be in effect until further notice.
