Water boil advisory lifted for sections of Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (June 24, 2010) - Two consecutive days of laboratory tests confirm that the water for customers living in the northern sections of Columbia is safe to drink. Columbia Water and Light had issued the precautionary boil advisory after a large water distribution main broke on Tuesday, June 22. The areas that were under a precautionary boil advisory were: Lake of the Woods, Mexico Gravel Road, Pine Grove Mobile Home Park, Godas, The Links, Hanover, Timber Ridge, Garden City, Indian Hills and the surrounding subdivisions.

The main break caused the water pressure to drop substantially which could have led to contamination. According to standards set by the Department of Natural Resources, Columbia Water & Light issued a precautionary water boil order. The water samples from the repaired water lines required an incubation period of 24 hours before they could be analyzed. Both sets of samples showed no bacterial contamination.

Customers will be notified by an automatic phone system that the water is safe to drink. Customers who do not receive a phone call should contact the Utility Customer Service office at (573) 874-7380 to make sure the correct phone number is on file. Customers can also update their utility account contact information at www.GoColumbiaMo.com.
