COLUMBIA, MO (June 26, 2010) - A malfunction of a storm warning siren in the East Campus area of Columbia triggered the activation of the siren around 10 this morning. The Columbia Fire Department assisted by responding to the area. The Fire Department discovered damage to the system disconnected the siren.
“We’re not sure what caused the damage to the siren, but we are taking steps to have it repaired,” says OEM Director Zim Schwartze. “Our office has spoken to the company we contract with to repair the city’s storm sirens, and technicians will arrive on Monday to repair the damage. In the meantime, those living in the East Campus area will be served by other storm warning sirens located in their area. However we do advise that those residents stay tuned to local media, in the event that a severe weather threat should arise.”
