COLUMBIA, MO (July 13, 2010) - A 6-inch water main on North Waterfront Drive broke early this morning which caused the pressure to drop substantially. According to standards set by the Department of Natural Resources, Columbia Water & Light issued a precautionary water boil advisory.
Customers living on North Waterfront Drive and Driftwood Court are urged to take the following precautions:
• Boil water for three minutes prior to using it for cooking or drinking.
• Do not use ice from an automatic ice maker. Remake ice with water that has been boiled.
• Disinfect dishes and food contact surfaces by immersing for one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
Crews are working on restoring water service to the area. Columbia Water & Light must have two clean samples before lifting the water boil advisory which will take a minimum of 48 hours for processing. Customers will be notified with phone calls and hang tags on their doors that the boil advisory has been lifted. Note, South Waterfront Drive customers are not included in the water boil advisory.
