COLUMBIA, MO (July 14, 2010) - Columbia Transit will begin its new bus route changes and schedule beginning Aug. 2. All new routes and schedules will be implemented at that time except for the 106/Brown Route. The Brown Route, which runs through downtown and the MU campus will not change until Aug. 16, due to construction work on several streets running through campus.
New maps and schedules will soon be posted online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com, by searching GoNewRoutes. The new maps and schedules will also be posted at the Wabash Station at 126 N. 10th Street, as well as all Transit bus shelters. The city is printing new Transit maps, but until those are completed, copies of the individual route maps will be available at the Wabash Station.
Major improvements to the bus system include new service to more Columbia employers so citizens have transportation for more job opportunities. Other changes include extending service farther to north, east and west Columbia, and rerouting the orange route to south Columbia, which often had difficulties with traffic congestion. Saturday service will now mirror the weekday schedule to lessen confusion. This expanded service will also aid ParaTransit riders, as more riders will now qualify for service inside the ADA area. ParaTransit riders must live within three-quarters of a mile from any fixed route.
