COLUMBIA, MO (August 2, 2010) - The city of Columbia will conduct three hunter orientation and registration sessions for citizens interested in bow hunting deer on designated city properties as part of the city’s deer management program. The sessions are open to the public at no charge. The one-hour sessions will be held at the Activity and Recreation Center, 1701 West Ash Street. The following sessions are the only times when city hunting permits will be issued.
• Saturday, Aug. 21, at 8:00 a.m.
• Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 3 p.m.
• Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m.
Anyone wishing to receive a permit must register online and attend one of the orientation sessions.
Bow hunting will be permitted during two seasons:
• Sept. 15 – Nov. 12, 2010
• Nov. 24, 2010 – Jan. 15, 2011
Hunting with a city permit will be allowed at the following locations:
1. Norma Sutherland Smith Park, Brown Station Road
2. Grindstone Nature Area, 2011 Old 63 S
3. Twin Lakes Recreation Area, 2500 Chapel Hill Road
4. Strawn Road Property, 801 N. Strawn Road
5. SC Fields Sewer Utility, Coats Lane, S of Gillespie Bridge Road
6. Sanitary Landfill, access from Hinkson Creek Road and Wyatt Lane
7. MKT Nature Area, Scott Boulevard access and MKT Jay Dix Station access
8. Gans Creek Recreation Area, Gans Road
9. Oakland Church Road property
To hunt at the designated locations, hunters must attend one of the three orientation sessions and obtain a permit that they must carry while hunting on city property and accompanying permit that must be displayed in vehicles using designated parking areas. Hunters shall also follow all relevant Missouri Department of Conservation rules, regulations and requirements related to hunting.
