Columbia Water & Light staff members will teach 7th grade science student how electricity is produced and the importance of using it wisely. The program started at Smithton Middle School last week and moves to Gentry this week and then Lange next week. The introductory session of Energy Choices program reviews both traditional and renewable resources for creating energy. To gain perspective on the process of creating energy, the students are given a chance to create electricity by pedaling a bike. Following the presentations, Columbia Water & Light staff returns to the classrooms to assist students in a personal energy efficiency project. Students collect temperature and water flow data from their own showers. They are then shown how to calculate both the energy use and cost of showering. This program is part of Columbia Water & Light's efforts in energy efficiency which help customers and the utility save money.
