City and County Fire Departments Respond to Auto Salvage Yard Fire
On 02/20/2013, members of the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched, at 12:33 pm, to a reported commercial structure fire at 4901 Rogers Rd, Super Recycled Auto Parts. When Quint 5, Q5, left the station at Clark and Ballenger they reported heavy smoke showing and requested a Boone County Tanker be dispatched. The Division Chief then requested that a Boone County Engine and two tankers be dispatched to the incident. When Q5 arrived on the scene at 12:42 pm they dropped a 4" supply line at the intersection of Rogers and Wyatt Ln, requested the next due apparatus supply them water, and then proceeded to the fully involved machine shed or shop that was several hundred feet from the roadway.
When Q4 arrived on the scene they supplied water to Q5, then when Q9 arrived on the scene they pumped their water to Q5 as did L1 when they arrived on the scene. As L1 emptied their tank BCFPD Engine 101 arrived and a tanker shuttle operation was set up to supply water to Q5. The tanker shuttle operation was started with two tankers and increased to five tankers during the course of the event. Crews estimated that 22,000 gallons of water were shuttled to the fire. The fire was under control at 13:30 with crews continuing to address hot spots.
It was determined that Boone County Fire Investigators would be investigating the fire. At the time of this release the fire is under investigation and there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.
