Volunteers enjoyed a beautiful day to participate in the 15th annual Cleanup Columbia, a citywide trash pickup event. The city of Columbia Volunteer Programs estimates that 1,509 volunteers participated picking up 1,820 bags of litter and logging 2,765 hours of service. These numbers are based on reports from 62 groups that provided data on their cleanups.
Following trash pickup, more than 500 volunteers attended a post cleanup lunch at Twin Lakes Recreation Area sponsored by APAC-Missouri Inc. and served by the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
Cleanup Columbia is organized by the city of Columbia’s Volunteer Programs. During Cleanup Columbia, volunteers pick up litter along streets, in parks and along streams and trails and remove graffiti from public property in central Columbia.
Additional updates on the work accomplished by Cleanup Columbia volunteers will be posted at www.GoColumbiaMo.com.
