The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a n injury accident at the corner of Rothwell Drive and Wappel Drive at 3:11pm on Friday, April 26, 2013.
Units arrived and observed a blue passenger vehicle with significant damage to the passenger side. The Columbia Police Department was already on the scene. There were three occupants in the vehicle. The driver was out of the vehicle. The front seat passenger and rear seat passengers were still in the vehicle. The front seat passenger was unable to exit because of the damage. Fire crews upgraded the call to an extrication accident and additional units, including the Columbia Fire Department's rescue squad were dispatched.
The front seat passenger was extricated from the vehicle and both passengers were transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It was determined that the accident occurred on Faurot Drive and involved the vehicle hitting a tree. The driver apparently drove the vehicle from the scene of the accident to the corner of Rothwell and Wappel. The Columbia Police Department took the driver of the vehicle in to custody. Questions about the driver should be directed to the Columbia Police Department.
A total of five emergency vehicles responded from the Columbia Fire Department.
