At 9:17 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported house on fire at 2113 Pleasant Way in northeast Columbia. Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported smoke coming from the basement of the residence.
Columbia firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:21 a.m. to find gray smoke coming from the basement of the single-story house with a walkout basement. Firefighters entered the basement door of the home and, using a single hose line, extinguished what appeared to be large piles of burning trash within five minutes.
The Columbia Police Department, working with Columbia Fire Department Investigators, identified 41-year-old Arnold Larson of Columbia as a suspect in this fire. On Thursday, May 30, 2013 Larson was arrested for arson in the 2nd degree with a to be set bond. Incident number 20135199.
