Columbia's Blue Thunder Track Club sent 44 athletes to compete in the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Detroit last weekend. They competed in various events against 11,000 athletes from across the country.
Nine Blue Thunder athletes earned All American honors in 12 events. Those top honors are earned by placing in the top 8 in their respective events. Blue Thunder's national All-American performances are:
Hannah Wise, 9 year olds, 1500m Race Walk, 10:10.30, 5th place
Mya White, 10 year olds, 1500m Race Walk, 10:09.23, 4th place
Eryn Puett, 11 year olds, Pentathlon, 2,325 points, 3rd place; High Jump, 4'8", 2nd place; Shot Put, 33'0.25'', 2nd place
Tyra Wilson, 11 year olds, 80m Hurdles, 15.73, 6th place
Peyton Davis, 12 year olds, Pentathlon, 2,048 pts, 8th place; 800m, 2:18.57, 6th place
Kurtis Schweikert, 12 year olds, 1500m Race Walk, 9:29.39, 5th place
Mojuba Shonekan, 12 year olds, 800m, 2:21.09, 8th place
Cayla Davis, 15-16 year olds, 3000m Race Walk, 18:14.50, 7th place
Hannah Schweikert, 17-18 year olds, 3000m Race Walk, 19:03.13, 7th place
Other notable performances include Nathaniel Peat finishing in 11th place in the 13 year old boys 400m dash. His time was 54.92, less than two-tenths of a second from making All-American. Zaida Williams finished 9th in the 12 year old girls shot put with a throw of 30' 5''. She was a half inch short from being named an All-American.
