Columbia Water & Light
Columbia Water & Light is considering increasing the number of solar panels located at the corner of Bernadette Drive and Tiger Lane. As part of the City of Columbia's public improvement process, an Interested Parties Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 23 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Activity and Recreation Center, 1701 W. Ash. Columbians are urged to stop by and review the project, ask questions and provide feedback. The Columbia City Council will then determine if it is in the public's interest to issue a Request for Proposals for the solar project through the city's Purchasing Division.
The current capacity of the West Ash solar field is 12 kilowatts and there is room for more panels. By gathering proposals from solar energy vendors, Columbia Water & Light will have a better idea of how many solar panels can be installed and establish a budget for the project. Expanding the amount of locally produced solar energy was included in the staff recommendations for the Integrated Resource Plan completed last year. The additional solar energy will also help meet the future requirements of Columbia's renewable energy mandate.
