UPDATE: As of 4:00 pm, all the electric outages on Columbia's system have been restored.
As of Friday afternoon, the restoration work on Columbia's electric system due to Monday's storm is very near completion. The remaining work on Spring Valley Road should be completed on Friday. There are some customers' homes where an electrician is completing work before Columbia Water & Light can energize their service line. Any customer without power that has not contacted the utility yet should call 573-875-2555.
Municipal utility crews from Independence, Fulton, Higginsville, Macon and Hannibal returned home on Friday morning. They had been helping with electric restoration efforts through a mutual aid agreement with the Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities since Tuesday. The agreement is set up so the crews will be paid through their employer and then the Columbia Water & Light will reimburse them for their expenditures. No estimates of the cost of the repairs to the electric system have been totaled yet but costs are being tracked.
Repair work on the Fairview poles, transmission and distribution lines has been completed. Fairview Road, between Broadway and Ash, is open to traffic again.
Columbia Water & Light crews will continue to clear branches this weekend that are dangerously close to damaging electric lines if there are strong winds. Any customer that notices a tree branch hanging on a line that could cause an immediate problem with the electric system should call 573-875-2555 to report it or complete the online form at: https://www.gocolumbiamo.com/CMS/WebForms/form.php?formid=193. (or type "tree trimming request" in the search box on the city's website) Columbia Water & Light will not be doing routine maintenance this weekend or trimming along customers' service lines. The goal of the tree trimming work this weekend is to clean up any remaining storm related damage near the primary electric lines to avoid future outages.
