This Saturday, 30 city of Columbia used computers will find new homes in Columbia households. The city, the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Downtown Optimist Club partner each year to provide surplus (used) computers and equipment to eligible VAC clients as part of the Homes For Computers Program. The used computers are being given away to clients who are enrolled in VAC programs and who applied and were found eligible for the computer giveaway. In addition, Andy Anderson from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department will present a short program on Internet safety for all computer recipients.
Clients who applied and were found eligible have been contacted by VAC and will receive their computer Saturday, Feb. 26. Computers will be distributed by the Downtown Optimist Club between 9 a.m. -11 a.m. at the Downtown Optimist Club Building, 1201 Grand Ave.
The Homes for Computers Program was approved by City Council December 2003. This year’s program will bring the number of donated computers to 318.
Questions about the giveaway should be directed to Cindy Mustard, executive director, Voluntary Action Center, at (573) 449-6959.
