October 7 - 13 is Fire Prevention Week and the Columbia Fire Department is busy spreading the word. Battalion Chief Brad Fraizer, Fire Marshal stated ‘The Columbia Fire Department is working with schools and organizations around the community during this year's Fire Prevention Week.' Fire Fighters and members of Tryps Children's Theater are putting on plays at area schools with this year's theme ‘Have 2 Ways Out.'
‘This year's message focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice', Fraizer said. It's important for every home to have a fire escape plan that prepares families to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. If one escape is blocked by smoke or flame having a second way out can save your life.
The Fire Marshal's Division is also conducting fire safety discussions with local businesses and organizations. For more information or to schedule a visit by the Fire Department visit the Fire Department's website www.gocolumbiamo.com/Fire/ or contact the Fire Marshal's Division at 573-874-7556.
