Sponsors Council Meeting Summary

Sponsors Council took the first 15 minutes to discuss the interview and selection process for the Vision Committee Co-Chairs. It was decided that 6 finalists will be interviewed for seven minutes each and that the selection of the 2 Co-Chairs would take place at the end of today’s meeting. 5 questions were selected for each of the interviews:

1. Why did you apply for the position of Co-Chair of the Vision Committee? What are your expectations?
2. How would you approach this role and what network connections or other resources would you bring to this task? Are you able to make this commitment?
3. Why is a community wide vision process important and what are the potential benefits for Columbia? Please explain.
4. If selected, you and your Co-Chair will be asked to recommend about 15 Co-Facilitators who will help facilitate the Citizen Topic Groups and write the final plan. What guidelines would you use to select these members of the Vision Committee team?
5. How would you overcome/avoid any obstacles to the success of this process?

Six finalists were interviewed and then each Sponsors Council member was provided with a spreadsheet of the finalists. Each member was asked to check two of the finalists they felt would best serve as Vision Co-Chair. After the first round of balloting Dr. Jeffrey Williams, Dianne Drainer and Sally Beth Lyon received the most votes. A second round of balloting took place since there was a tie between Sally Beth Lyon and Dianne Drainer. Following the second round of balloting Dianne Drainer received the most votes.

Dr. Jeffrey Williams and Dianne Drainer were announced as the Vision Co-Chairs for Imagine Columbia’s Future community visioning process. They then were charged with reviewing 35 Co-Facilitator applications and recommending 15 finalists to the Sponsors Council at their next meeting for final appointment.
