Joint Proclamation

City of Columbia, Missouri and City of Sibiu, Romania

WHEREAS, the City of Sibiu is the cultural center of Transylvania in Romania and home to the historical University of Sibiu; and

WHEREAS, the City of Columbia is home to the most comprehensive and oldest public university and two distinguished private colleges in the State of Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the City of Sibiu is set in a region of ethnic stability, openness to international cooperation, and cultural diversity, including a distinctive German heritage; and

WHEREAS, the City of Columbia is set in a region of cultural diversity including a distinctive German heritage; and

WHEREAS, the City of Sibiu is flourishing in a new era of democratization and openness; and

WHEREAS, the City of Columbia is a base of progressive civic and educational leadership in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the City of Sibiu encourages collaboration among the University of Sibiu, the Chamber of Commerce and the magistrates of the City of Sibiu; and

WHEREAS, the City of Columbia encourages similar collaboration among the officers of the City of Columbia, the University of Missouri-Columbia and the private sector; and

WHEREAS, the City of Sibiu and the City of Columbia have already participated in joint hosting of significant educational initiatives between the University of Sibiu and the University of Missouri-Columbia;

Be It Hereby Declared That
