LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a green building certification program created by the US Green Building Council. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. New construction certifications are structured within 6 categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation in Design.
