Broadway, by 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015. Applicants can either complete and submit the online application to the City Clerk directly from the internet or can complete the PDF format online and then print, sign, and submit it by mail to the City Clerk's office for processing.
BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION: 1 vacancy with term to expire July 31, 2015. Member shall have knowledge of street construction and maintenance, and must be a qualified voter of the City. The Commission advises the Council on issues relating to sidewalks, walkways and trails. Monthly meetings held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
BOARD OF MECHANICAL EXAMINERS: 1 vacancy with term to expire June 17, 2016. Must be a layperson and a resident of the City of Columbia. The Board is empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION CODES COMMISSION: 3 vacancies with terms to expire August 1, 2016 and August 1, 2017. One alternate member is needed from each of the following categories: person experienced in fire prevention, professional engineer (experience in electrical/mechanical), and master plumber. The Commission periodically reviews and makes recommendations relating to building construction codes. Monthly meetings held on the fourth Monday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
CITIZENS POLICE REVIEW BOARD: 2 vacancies with terms to expire November 1, 2017. Must be residents of Columbia and registered voters. Members cannot be employed by the City, be a party to any pending litigation against the City, be an elected public office holder, or be a candidate for elected public office. Members should reflect the cultural and racial diversity of Columbia and have no serious criminal record. A criminal history of all applicants of this Board will be conducted and the City Council will be advised of any convictions for violations of federal, state or local law. The Board reviews appeals from the police chief’s decisions on alleged police misconduct, hosts public meetings and educational programs for residents and police officers, and reviews and makes recommendations on police policies, procedures and training. CITY OF COLUMBIA NEW CENTURY FUND, INC. BOARD: 1 vacancy with term to expire September 30, 2017. Must have an interest in the future of the City of Columbia and the funding needs required to achieve future success, and must be a current resident and qualified elector of the City of Columbia. The New Century Fund, Inc. is a Missouri not-for-profit corporation. Meetings held on call.
COLUMBIA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION: 1 vacancy with term to expire November 1, 2017. Must be a qualified voter of the City from Ward 5, and shall not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any agency which applies for funding through the Commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the Commission. The Commission acts in an advisory capacity in all matters pertaining to community development. Monthly meetings held on call.
COLUMBIA LIBRARY DISTRICT BOARD: 1 vacancy with term to expire June 30, 2017. Must reside within the Columbia Library District, and shall hold no other office or position in City government. Duties include appointing the Librarian and overseeing expenditures of Library fund monies. Monthly meetings generally held at 6:00 p.m. on the first Thursday after the second Tuesday of the month. COLUMBIA VISION COMMISSION: 5 vacancies with terms to expire December 15, 2015 and December 15, 2016 for coordinating committee members. One must be a qualified voter residing within the City of Columbia, two must be residents of Boone County, not residing within the city limits of Columbia, and the others can be qualified voters residing within the City of Columbia or residents of Boone County, not residing within the city limits of Columbia. Members must have demonstrated a commitment to the visioning process. Candidates will be evaluated on the ability to work with data and understand systematic relationships, the ability to work collaboratively, management skills, independence, existing memberships or positions, and contributions to the diversity of the Commission. The Commission tracks, monitors and assists with the implementation of the visioning process. Meetings held on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
COMMUNITY TREE TASK FORCE: 7 vacancies. Three shall have applicable subject matter expertise, such as an arborist, forester, urban forester or dendrologist, three shall be residents of the City of Columbia, and one shall be a member of the Environment and Energy Commission. The task force shall develop educational materials for tree care, review current tree policies and ordinances of the City, and recommend a methodology for decennial citywide tree inventories and whether an ongoing tree commission should be established. The dates, times, and locations of the meetings will be determined at a later date.
FINANCE ADVISORY AND AUDIT COMMITTEE: 1 vacancy with term to expire December 31, 2016. Must be a commercial banker with knowledge of public finance and investment banking, and a qualified voter and resident of the City for at least one year prior to appointment. The Committee makes recommendations on financial matters to the Council as needed. Meetings held on call.
HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION: 2 vacancies with terms to expire December 31, 2017. Must be qualified voters and residents of the City of Columbia, and shall not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any organization which applies for funding through the Commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the Commission. (Each academic and administrative unit of the University of Missouri shall be considered a separate organization and each school of the Columbia Public School District shall be considered a separate organization.) The Commission advises the City in all matters regarding the planning and contracting for human service programs to adequately meet the needs of the citizens. Monthly meetings held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
MAYOR’S COUNCIL ON PHYSICAL FITNESS AND HEALTH: 7 vacancies with terms to expire November 30, 2015, November 30, 2016 and November 30, 2017. The Council educates the public about the importance of regular physical fitness activity and promotes, initiates and encourages local physical fitness and sports programs in the community. Monthly meetings held the first Tuesday of every even month at 12:30 p.m.
PUBLIC TRANSIT ADVISORY COMMISSION: 1 vacancy with term to expire March 1, 2016. Must be a University of Missouri student. The Commission advises staff with regard to transit policy and safety matters concerning transit issues affecting the City, studies issues arising under the Columbia Transit Master Plan as they relate to transportation and makes recommendations to the City Council. Meetings held the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI EXTENSION COUNCIL OF BOONE COUNTY: 1 vacancy with term to expire March 1, 2017. Must be a resident of the City. The Council makes recommendations to the University in regard to the extension program and administers Boone County’s share of the cost of the extension services in the area. Monthly meetings held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
