You can save a substantial amount on your electric bills by participating in Columbia Water and Light’s rate-saving programs. During a 24-hour period, the amount of electricity required by customers varies dramatically. Many commercial and industrial customers tend to use the most power during the day and a lot less at night. Electric use is also highest in the summer when air conditioners run up demand. These variations in demand create peaks and valleys in Columbia’s system load. Working with customers to use less power at high demand times, and to shift demand to off-peak times, allows us to reduce peak demand and spread demand out evenly over the day. This ‘peak reduction’ and ‘load shifting’ means we can operate our system more efficiently and pass on cost savings to your business.
Load Shedding (250 kW or more): Customers electing to reduce electrical consumption when requested during high peak loads, will receive a credit of $4 per month for 12 months for each kW shed, up to 50% of the peak load.
Load Management (residential, small general service and large general service): Receive a 3% reduction on summer electric bills for installing a remote controlled device on your outside air conditioning unit. Switches are activated during summer peak usage periods to help rotate electric demand.
Low Interest Loans for energy efficiency improvements: Borrow money at a low rate to purchase a more efficient heating and cooling system, add insulation, install a solar water heater or a heat pump.
Lighting Incentive Program - A detailed analysis of your facility’s lighting will identify how money can be saved on energy efficient lighting. Large General and Industrial rate customers are eligible for a rebate to help cover the cost of lighting upgrade projects.
Rebates for Energy Efficient Equipment - Rebates are available for electric customers who purchase air conditioners rated with a SEER 14 or higher, install a solar water heater or a solar system to generate electricity.
Off-Peak Discount: Available to any customer receiving electric service under the Industrial Service rate that has an annual load factor of 75% or greater.
Interruptible Service Rate: Customers under the Large General Service Rate, or the Industrial Service Rate that have at least 500 kW of load that can be interrupted by Columbia Water and Light are eligible for this service rate. Customers in this classification will have a firm demand charge. Interruptible loads are specific areas of a customer’s service that can be metered and can be entirely removed from service during periods requested by Columbia Water and Light. Arrangements for interruptible service require a signed agreement between the customer and the city. The rate is not available for temporary, standby, breakdown, supplementary or resale service.
Thermal Storage Rider: This rate is available to any customer receiving electric service under the Industrial Service Rate that has installed thermal storage facilities that conform to the utility’s Load Shedding Program.
