DEPARTMENT / DIVISION:
Law/Prosecutor's Office
Work is performed under the general supervision of the City Counselor and under the direct supervision of the City Prosecutor in a fast paced trial environment. This is responsible professional work involving the rendering of legal services on behalf of the City. The employee is responsible for prosecuting municipal ordinance violations, obtaining search warrants, and advising referring agencies on legal issues. The employee must be able to handle an extremely high caseload and must be able to work with a high degree of independence within departmental guidelines.
PARTIAL LISTING OF MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited law school and one year of experience practicing law, preferably with experience in public sector law; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of the legal profession. Considerable knowledge of Missouri law and Rules of Court, legal research and the investigation, preparation, and presentation of cases in court or other formal litigation. Considerable knowledge of legal office procedures and practices. Considerable knowledge of legal procedures involved in enforcing various codes and ordinances. Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to conduct legal research and to prepare written opinions and briefs in a proper manner. Ability to prepare and render legal opinions. Ability to handle trial and appellate litigations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, court officials, departmental directors and other City officials, other governmental officials, members of boards and commissions, and the general public. Excellent work history and attendance record. Possession of a valid Missouri license to practice law.
