DEPARTMENT / DIVISION:
Police
Work is performed under general supervision with some degree of independent judgment needed. This is clerical and office work performed within the Services Division of the Police Department. Work involves standard clerical duties of a highly procedural nature including filing, sorting, arithmetical computations, posting data, keeping records, and operating office machines. Special operational skills generally acquired through on the job training.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
WORK PERFORMED:
Performs clerical and computer work such as contact with the county and city prosecutor's offices regarding arrest reports and information that has to be delivered to those offices daily. Collects and logs all bonds and processes all DWI arrests. Answers telephone and personal inquiries; routes visitors and calls; secures information from appropriate sources; works with computers. Sorts and files reports and other materials, alphabetically, numerically, or by other established classification; prepares materials for distribution; posts data to individual records; runs errands in all weather conditions. Types reports using a computer. Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
PARTIAL LISTING OF MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school and one year of general clerical experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of business communications. Some knowledge of office practices, methods, and procedures. Ability to operate a variety of modern office equipment, including microcomputers, dictaphone and other electronic equipment; ability to successfully complete the City Clerical Exam and typing test prior to application deadline. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and use tact and diplomacy in contact with other individuals. Ability to perform clerical work of standard difficulty. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the general public. Ability to write legibly, use proper grammar and punctuation and to follow oral and written instructions Ability to work at routine assignments for extended periods as needed; ability to work under deadlines in fast-paced environment. Ability to withhold confidential, sensitive or privileged department information. Ability to lift 50 lb. boxes, to step onto 1-1 1/2 ft. step-stool and file reaching into 8 ft. files and to file a few inches from ground level. Ability to deliver reports while walking in all weather conditions. Excellent work history and attendance record. In departments where a vehicle is used to perform some duties or run errands, employees must possess/maintain valid Missouri Driver's License, excellent driving record and (in some cases) a dependable personal vehicle for on-the-job use. No serious criminal record (determined by nature of violation).
