DEPARTMENT / DIVISION:
Finance
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Treasury Support Supervisor. This is highly procedural clerical accounting work that primarily involves collecting and processing payments from individuals, businesses, and organizations for various City services.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:
None; however, the employee may be required to give guidance and assistance to other employees.
WORK PERFORMED:
Collects, sorts, and processes payments delivered in person and by mail for numerous City services such as utility accounts, special tax bills, invoice billings, collections from other departments, and miscellaneous payments. Utilizes various computer programs to accurately record payments against proper accounts; sorts, checks, and verifies items collected against data reports. Responds to customer inquiries, and makes proper referrals when necessary. Collects and shares information from various sources relevant to inquiries from customers or staff. Assists with preparation, verification, and delivery of deposits to the bank. Assists with statistical and other financial reports. Maintains detailed audit files related to payments processed. Makes positive and effective recommendations regarding policies and procedures for cashiering operation. Brings to attention of supervisors any areas of potential problems, inefficiencies, etc. Demonstrates attention to detail and commitment to accurate results. Demonstrates ability to provide good customer service, deals well with customers, both internal and external. Demonstrates research and analytical skills related to financial operations. Performs related duties as assgned or necessary.
PARTIAL LISTING OF MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school with some cashiering experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to work tactfully and courteously with the public and other employees. Ability to handle large volume of customers and cash transactions accurately under pressure. Understanding of financial transactions and business practices. Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment. Knowledge of bookkeeping practices, and terminology. Basic knowledge of customer service policies and procedures. Highly proficient in the use of calculators, personal computers, and financial software in performing duties, specifically the City's application software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Flexibility to work extended hours with short notice. Excellent work history and attendance record. Must have no criminal record relating to money. Must be eligible to be bonded.
