    DEPARTMENT / DIVISION:      Police
Work is performed under the general supervision of a Police Captain. The employee is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion in the performance of a variety of job duties. This is responsible paraprofesional work.


    SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:
None; however, the employee may be required to provide direction/training to new employees and/or interns.


    WORK PERFORMED:
Maintains and processes all payroll requisitions, evaluations, attendance records and employee benefits; prepares salary comparison and maintains salary information for all employees; monitors eligibility for sick-leave buyback, vacation cash in and holiday payout. Maintains files regarding grievances, disciplinary actions, injury reports and worker's compensation documents. Monitors Field Training Officer's pay and assignments; maintains accurate documentation of the POST program to ensure offices compliance with State requirements; prepares quarterly and annual reports for Department of Public Safety; monitors and processes training requests and files and accounts for training account monies; plans and organizes all in-state and out-of-state training. Maintains grant records preparing quarterly and annual reports and oversees finances. Provides technical assistance to the Chief and command staff as needed on a variety of topics. Assists in coordination of the Career Development program, preparing reports for the Chief and ensuring all participants meet eligibility requirements; processes and monitors program changes to ensure proper pay. Coordinates and assists with special department projects, Citizens Academy, Special Olympics, Police Scholarship Fund, and Project Search. Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.


    PARTIAL LISTING OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school (college or business school training preferred); and two years of paraprofessional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Considerable knowledge of general office procedures and processes. Considerable knowledge of computer operations/applications and those specific to police administration. Successful completion of the City Clerical Exam and typing test prior to application deadline. Knowledge of record-keeping systems. Knowledge of standards and techniques for maintaining records. Ability to organize workload and comply with priorities and deadlines. Ability to prepare and process employee requisitions. Ability to establish and maintain an effective record keeping system. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to prepare oral and written reports, presentations, and recommendations. Excellent work history and attendance record.
