DEPARTMENT / DIVISION:
General
Work is performed under the continuing supervision of a superintendent or other designated supervisor. This is manual work in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of assigned City buildings and property.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:
None, although guidance and assistance may be given to seasonal workers.
WORK PERFORMED:
Bends, stoops, and twists to vacuum, sweep, mop, scrub and polish floors; shampoos carpets; washes windows and walls. Dusts, polishes, and moves furniture and equipment while bending/stooping or reaching overhead. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and drinking fountains; replenishes restroom supplies. Climbs ladders to replace light bulbs; empties trash containers. Cleans and polishes brass and other metal fixtures. Closes and locks buildings; opens buildings. May perform custodial duties at various locations, as assigned. Maintains lawns, sidewalks and parking areas; shovels snow and removes debris and trash; operates hand and power mowers and related equipment. Loads and unloads cleaning supplies, materials and equipment; operates vacuum cleaners, buffers and related cleaning equipment. Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
PARTIAL LISTING OF MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of eighth grade and one year experience in cleaning buildings; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Some knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment. Some knowledge of safety standards and regulations pertaining to the care and cleaning of buildings and grounds. Skill in the application of practices, techniques, and equipment used in the custodial field. Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to operate equipment such as a vacuum cleaner, buffer, and shampooer. Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Ability to drive City vehicle to other work locations. Excellent work history and attendance record. Possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license and an excellent driving record.
