Applicants can either complete and submit the online application to the City Clerk directly from the internet or can complete the PDF format online and then print, sign, and submit it by mail to the City Clerk's office for processing.
BOARD OF MECHANICAL EXAMINERS: 1 vacancy with term to expire June 17, 2016. Must be a layperson and a resident of the City of Columbia. The Board is empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION CODES COMMISSION: 2 vacancies with terms to expire August 1, 2016. One alternate to serve in the absence of the regular member is needed from each of the following categories: professional engineer (experience in electrical/mechanical) and master plumber. The Commission periodically reviews and makes recommendations relating to building construction codes. Monthly meetings held on the fourth Monday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
COLUMBIA VISION COMMISSION: 2 vacancies with terms to expire December 15, 2016 for coordinating committee members. Both must be residents of Boone County, not residing within the city limits of Columbia. Members must have demonstrated a commitment to the visioning process. Candidates will be evaluated on the ability to work with data and understand systematic relationships, the ability to work collaboratively, management skills, independence, existing memberships or positions, and contributions to the diversity of the Commission. The Commission tracks, monitors and assists with the implementation of the visioning process. Meetings held on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
FINANCE ADVISORY AND AUDIT COMMITTEE: 1 vacancy with term to expire December 31, 2016. Must be a commercial banker with knowledge of public finance and investment banking, and a qualified voter and resident of the City for at least one year prior to appointment. The Committee makes recommendations on financial matters to the Council as needed. Meetings held on call.
MAYOR’S COUNCIL ON PHYSICAL FITNESS AND HEALTH: 1 vacancy with term to expire November 30, 2015. The Committee educates the public about the importance of regular physical fitness activity and promotes, initiates and encourages local physical fitness and sports programs in the community. Monthly meetings held the first Tuesday of every even month at 12:30 p.m.
PERSONNEL ADVISORY BOARD: 2 vacancies with term to expire November 30, 2015. Two alternates are needed to serve in the absence of, or disqualification of, the regular members. Must be residents and registered qualified voters of the City, and shall have significant, substantive knowledge of social, legislative, political, and administrative factors affecting personnel management and employee relations. In addition, members must not hold a lucrative position in City government nor any other lucrative public office during their terms. The Board advises the Council on its findings, opinions, various conclusions and recommendations on the status of the personnel system. Meetings held on call.
PUBLIC TRANSIT ADVISORY COMMISSION: 1 vacancy with term to expire March 1, 2015. Must be a University of Missouri student. The Commission advises staff with regard to transit policy and safety matters concerning transit issues affecting the City, studies issues arising under the Columbia Transit Master Plan as they relate to transportation and makes recommendations to the City Council. Meetings held the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
RAILROAD ADVISORY BOARD: 2 vacancies with terms to expire July 15, 2014 and July 15, 2017. Members must have knowledge and interest in either railroad, shipping, transportation or business, and be sympathetic with the principle of municipal ownership and operation of branch line rail operations. The Board advises the Council on the operations and needs of the Columbia Terminal railroad. Meetings held on the second Thursday of the month at 8:00 a.m. at least once quarterly.
ROCK QUARRY ROAD SCENIC ROADWAY STAKEHOLDER ADVISORY GROUP: Up to 10 potential vacancies. Up to five members shall be residents who live along the affected scenic road corridor, which is the portion of Rock Quarry Road from the south property line of the property located at the southwest corner of Fellows Place to the south city limits of Columbia, and one of those members must be a resident property owner. Up to five members shall be representatives of the general public, who may be from various interested citizen groups.This group would work with the Planning and Zoning Commission, who is tasked to develop a corridor plan, in determining the values and preferences regarding the scenic preservation and roadway design within and along the Rock Quarry Road Scenic Roadway corridor. This group would also provide input regarding roadway design in terms of the level of service needs of all intended roadway users against the scenic roadway district preservation goals in proposing specific design options.
