Replaces the current facility at 3601 South Providence Road. The current facility has structural issues, and traffic patterns have changed the response capabilities of the current fire station site.
Latest fire station location study, a data-driven computer model, indicated that Fire Station No. 7 could have improved response times and a smaller overlap in the response area by being moved approximately one-half mile west from the current location.
Serves not only the south-central area of Columbia, but will be a resource of staff and equipment for the entire city.
Located on 1.5 acres, m/l, of land purchased at a cost of $287,647.00. In response to neighborhood desires, an additional tract of adjoining land was purchased at a cost of $110,585.00.
General contractor for the project is GBH Builders of Jefferson City, Missouri. Peckham & Wright Architects, Inc are the building design professionals.
Cost of the building is $1,766,678.00.
Building is 7,900 square feet and includes three drive-through bays and living quarters.
The building was designed and is expected to qualify as a LEED-certified project.
Building qualified for the Percent for Art funding.
The station will operate with three personnel on duty each day as a single company station.
Quint No. 7, a 2003 Sutphen Quint with 75 aerial, is operating out of the current Station No. 7, and will also be housed in the new station.
