The number and kinds of insects are amazing. Most insects go through four distinct stages in their life cycle. After the egg hatches, a larva develops. The pupa follows, and then finally the adult appears. Insects are food for many animals, including birds, bats, fish, and even other insects. They are also one of nature's recyclers, breaking down materials like leaves and dead animals.
