Have you thought about walking to work, but the idea leaves you frazzled? There might be a solution for you, your wallet, and your well-being. Commuting with a friend or neighbor is an alternate way to approach your commute to work.
As little as once a week, find a way to add a leg (literally) to your journey to or from work by walking part of the way.
Find a neighbor who's traveling in the same direction, then find "drop off" points that are comfortable distances to walk to or from your work, home or wherever. You and your co-commuter can take turns - one drives, while the other walks.
Through e-mail, breakroom posters or just talking it up, let your co-workers know you're looking for a co-commuter.
Invite your co-workers to a lunch or coffee break to find the perfect commuting buddy. Exchange e-mails, phone numbers and other contact information.
Once you have your co-commuter, plan your routes. Have a backup plan in case of bad weather or emergency.
Relax and enjoy the trips when you're a passenger, and get health benefits when you walk. You'll know that you're doing something good for yourself and the environment.
