Contact: Battalion Chief Brad Fraizer, Fire Marshal
Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm
The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at 800 Cherry Street, Bank of America, on Monday July 1, 2013 at 10:57am. Units arrived on the scene four minutes later and found the building was being evacuated.
Fire crews were met by maintenance personnel who advised there was a fire in an air handling unit on the unoccupied second floor. The incident commander upgraded to a commercial structure fire and requested additional units. Crews went to the second floor and found fire in an equipment room and significant smoke.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and were able to contain it to the air handeler. The smoke was cleared using large fans and positive pressure ventilation.
Employees of Bank of America were displaced for approximately one hour but were able to return to work.
Six units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this event.
