Vehicle Drives into Local Business
On 08/23/2013, members of the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched, at 11:04 am, to a reported vehicle into a structure at 901 Old Hwy 63 N, Frameworks. The crews arrived on the scene at 11:09 am to find a blue late model Jeep Grand Cherokee into the front of the business. The vehicle penetrated the building to the windshield before coming to a stop. Fortunately there was no one in that area of the store at the time of the incident. There were no injuries inside the store and the driver, a 73 year old female from Rocheport, MO was not injured
The Technical Rescue Unit was dispatched to the scene of this incident to provide tools and materials needed to stabilize the structure. Crews also called for a building inspector to assist them in evaluating the structural integrity of the building before removing the vehicle. Some temporary shoring was placed in the damaged area of the structure to support the second floor and roof over the opening. The vehicle was then removed and another shore put in place. A contractor was scheduled to be onsite this afternoon and the business was scheduled to remain open. It was also determined that a preliminary damage estimate would be around $10,000.00.
